Most of us have at least one embroidered item we would like to repurpose. For me, it was a jacket. And since I didn’t want to take the risk of a mishap, I found an easy (okay, lazy) way to replace the logo.
The logo has been disguised to protect the identity of the company I am erasing. The jacket is a polyester weather-resistant blend that, although it is a little big, is very comfortable and useful in a variety of seasons. (and, yes, it attracts lint from six counties).
I chose a circular design larger than the logo. Originally, I planned to stitch a full applique on Stitch-n-Heat stabilizer which is perfect for freestanding applique. I chose this “loose” applique design, sometimes called raw-edge applique. And, because it gives a perfect, no-fray edge, I chose to embroider the sunflower design on hand-dyed felted wool.
First, hoop an adhesive tear-away stabilizer. Alternately, you can use a tear-away in the hoop and spray the back of the felt with a temporary adhesive.
Stitch the outline, then tack down the middle fabric. I used a faux suede for added texture.
Remove the hoop from the machine but leave everything hooped. Trim the center circle close to the tack-down stitch.
