I think this issue comes up a lot in embroidery communities.

One item I wrote about - Hooping Tips,  still has tips that will help hooping issues despite it's being several years old.  Some things have not significantly changed.

We all know that embroidery and the related products are moving at warp speed but hooping is still a mainstay that we all can relate to.

One thing that I need to add to it is that after the fabric is in the hoop, place your plastic template over your fabric to verify that you will be happy with the placement.  Using a PAL2 is excellent, check it out.
