The scissors that are on sale right now, are a really good buy.
My experience was to take my similar scissors to the sharpener and found out that the cost was too high and one could not be sharpened and they have been dropped and they cannot be tightened and - - - well, you get the picture.
The small scissors, that I guard very carefully, eventually do become dull. I never have cut paper or other than fabric/thread with mine. But, evenutally, they are not worthy of the effort it takes to cut with them. They do not do a good job at the very tip, they gnaw the thread. Geeze!
Just my thoughts - Pat, The Avid Embroiderer

Pat I have used Gingher Sissors for years, have never had to replace them and I do believe you get what you pay for. I also have all 3 sizes of their rotary cutters and their seam ripper.

Yes, you do get what you pay for. Once you make the investment, maintenance is necessary. Several brands offer sharpening service, but you need to be able to do without your scissors during this time. That is one time backup cutting devices come in handy, or you take a sabbatical.
I keep a strip of grip/cushion type shelf liner next to my machines to help prevent my scissors from slipping off the work surface. http://duckbrand.com/pro...liners/select-easy-liner

That is another good idea, Pattiann. Dropping scissors is very hard on them.
