New to machine embroidery, getting my feet wet, and is Embird a good product?

Hi,

I'm pretty new to machine embroidery and am having fun learning all about it.

I have a few questions, though. I have a Brother se350, and found I had to purchase the PED programs, and so I bought the PED basic.(the one I can afford!) So far, its all i really want. I dont want to design my own, I'm very happy using designs that others who are more skilled at that make, and they come out so pretty!

But I found a couple bigger designs than my 4 x 4 hoop, and need to learn how to split them. I am told that the EMBIRD program will split it for me. However, I'm wondering if there are other programs to choose from that offer free trials as well. I tried to d/l the embird and my computer said the file was not good.So i thought perhaps I needed to chekc out others as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions? All I really want to do is be able to split the designs so I can use bigger patterns.
