upgrades

Having dealt with numerous companies upgrading software

I would venture to say the way the production team handles the upgrading of the catalog software is the worst I have ever encountered, Gaming compies have you log in and get the update without junping through hoops like a trained beagle.

Buy the upgrade then spend the next four weeks email tag with atg support to get the thing registered

Messages such as UNATHORIZED SERVER CAN ONLY UPGRADE"

Network server cannot be found

I absolutely hate when my mother buys an update for anything made by this softare developer it has to be the most non user friendly of software ever developed by someone that designs software

Does anyone else have the same problem of thread shredding I am using a 75/11 Schmetz needle with 40 wt Gunold thread and 40 wt Brother thread both rayon. I have tried other needles and other threads but it gets worse. Help I have no hair left lol.

Bobbin Thread Showing Through

I am new on this site, but hope someone can help me. I have a Brother innovis 700e, and the bobbin thread is showing through the top thread. I have adjusted the tension to + and - but its still the same. I am a novice and do not have any service centre or engineers locally. I am open to suggestions and hope someone can help.

Help me understand embroidery download process.

I have recently purchased a babylock Unity embroidery machine. I need help getting started understanding the download process on to the computer. The designs download on the pes format . Now the problem is that I cannot open these to view the design. They download with the adobe symbol but then adobe can't open it. Any help would be appreciated. Any good books of lessons available to help me get started. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Learn the machine first.

I have read so many post at several Machine Embroidery forums regarding problems new crafters are having with their embroidery machines. Many of these are machines purchased from the Internet, big box store or from a previous owner. Nothing wrong with these options (my first was from a BB store). There just aren't any hands-on lessons, unless the previous owner is so inclined to help you.

The problems are almost always user error.

First error is not following the manual. Instead it is thought it is the machine, the thread or the tension. This can start out as a hunch, but then can be reinforced buy well meaning embroidery machine owners who may or may not have had a similar problem. Soon, it can seem over whelming.

"My machine does not like (this or that brand of thread) is the one that really floors me, when how the thread is feeding from the spool can be the reason for the problem.

For sucessful machine embroidery - sit down at the machine with the manual. Start at page one and do not skip around the pages or go by the graphics alone. Read and apply. This may take an hour or two, but is well worth it when compared to the amount of down time that could take place (or ruined projects) when the thread gets tangled in the auto threader, under the feed dogs, or for some brands/models, the wrong weight of bobbin thread is used.

First project - don't start with a onesie or a bath towel. Both take some finesse - read the blogs from the experts here at ATG. Practice on an old t-shirt or tea towel. Both are plentiful at my house. Use the designs that are built-in the embroidery machine before attempting the downloads.

Next - invest in a basic software package (this will help you actually see those downloads* after they have been opened and saved). Be sure to note the system requirements to be sure your computer's operating system can run the software. There also are invaluable tutorials; videos or in print. Again, this is all available at ATG. If you cannot find what you want at "SHOP" try "BLOGS" at the top of the screen/page, or "LINKS" at the bottom of any screen/page on this site.

A successful embroidered project is always a good reason to do the "happy dance".

*How to save the downloads - your computer's operating system should have an option to create a folder in "documents". Create the folder and give it a name you can easily recognize. Start sending downloads to this folder. The download will be zipped/compressed for faster download time. This file has to be opened/extracted/unzipped, depending on the language the OS uses. The opened file is the one you save. There may be a design file as well as a text file with a color chart. As your collection grows, you may want to create sub-folders with names, such as fonts, flowers, animals, etc.

It is best to back-up the folders on a flash/stick drive or disk just in case the computer should malfunction or crash and loose your files.

I seldom do...I just forget that it is there! If the darn thing would just blink or trigger an email it sure would help.

What else could be done to make this a more user friendly site? List your suggestions. Perhaps if "We" submit as a group, improvements can be made.

PE-Design Software Question

You can not upgrade from LITE to NEXT.....what would be the best way for me to upgrade so that I can use the "NEXT" version. Does anyone have version's 5-7 that they would be willing to sale?

This does not stop the ads, but it will at least give you what you may want to read.

Lacework embroidery

I want to try lacework embroidery. I was wondering what kind of scissors would I need to have to cut out the lacework. Dont really have anything small and sharp to do it. Howver, I am primary looking for a greek alphabet font.

Is there a greek letter font that can be purchased separately for use with this software?

Sometimes we tend to go a little overboard when a case (some are very pretty) containing a large collection of ME thread or sewing thread goes on sale. Even single spools can entice us to fill up the shopping cart, and sales are a good thing.

Now, if you sew or embroider daily, stitch large designs/projects or have a business the collection can dwindle. However, some of us start out strong with good intentions and then life's precedence takes a turn and our interests (instead of the thread supply) dwindles!

But, you want to take care of your expensive investment so it does not have to be replaced when you get your groove back.

If you live in a dry climate, thread can become brittle. Same for exposure to sunlight*. And, unless you live in a bubble, household dust can collect on the outer layer of the spool.

Air-tight storage can help eliminate drying out (or, put in baggy then place in fridge crisper** if there is room) do same for wss stabilizer. I happen to have my work area and supplies in my basement, which is a little more humid than the rest of the house.

Craft storage units can also help protect thread from sunlight and dust.

Peel off the external layer of thread on spools that have already been stored in the open, then place where it will be dust free.

I test my thread by giving it the snap test to make sure it is not brittle before I use it.

More suggestions and tips welcomed!

*There is a type of ME thread that does not fade in the sun. I don't have any of this, but would store it the same way.

** Unless the manufacturer suggests otherwise.

I must say I was very disappointed with this product. I found that it doesn't fit any of the screws or fittings on my machines. More suited to toy sewing machines with similar tiny screws. The insert screw and other screwdrivers are too small to fit anything and slip off or the don't go over the screw. Postage was as dearer than the price for down here in AUS. More like an expensive toy.
