It was on It's Sew Easy series 200/show 209 and saves time when paper-piecing.
The quilt artist is George Siciliano. He custom cut a rotary cutting mat to fit around the needle plate, having the largest amount of the mat to the front and left of the plate.
The mat is taped to the machine (even has a little baggie for scraps).
He also has a two-piece ruler that swivels for alignment of the excess fabric and then trims with the rotary cutter.
No motions wasted and his mini quilts are gorgeous award winners.
I found a video of George - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQxWemwAiRg Not at detailed as the demo at ISE.
And here are pictures of his quilts - http://search.aol.com/ao...mp;v_t=comsearch51

Honestly, I don't really care for it. I have a workstation (large table) and several cutting boards and cutters. I would not want it right next to the sewing machine. I'm sure I would end up cutting myself.

I recently did a paper piecing quilt and kept a small cutting mat, ruler and cutter next to the machine. It saved me a tremendous amount of time.

I could see where it would be nice to have if your cutting table wasn't close by. I still make quilts and do the set-up just like my mom taught me. I wonder how many of these have been sold.
